Three-day self-guided tour in the Bothnian Sea

Three-day self-guided tour in the Bothnian Sea

Marina Hamnsundet’s self-guided kayak tour is a fantastic nature experience in Åland’s northern archipelago. Here you move along red granite cliffs towards the Bothnian Sea’s most open and barren archipelago with a rich birdlife, among Stormskärs Maja’s islands and in the archipelago of the amazing Boxö nature reserve.

The tour includes two overnight stays. The first night is in a tent on sleeping mats out in the outermost archipelago and the second in a cozy traditional archipelago hut or a glamping tent with a comfortable double bed in the middle of Boxö Nature Reserve. At the shore there is a sauna for a refreshing sauna bath and a dip in the bay’s clear water. You can also choose the Glasbergsboden or the Glamping tent as “base camp” for both overnight stays during the entire experience.

On the self-guided kayak tour, we help you plan the route based on your experience, prevailing weather conditions and what you are most interested in experiencing. For safety reasons, we assume that at least one person in the group has knowledge and experience of kayaking in open water.

Day 1:

We pick you up from the hotel, your accommodation, or the ferry terminal at the agreed time for transport to Hamnsundet, but it is also possible for you to go to Hamnsundet on your own.

The tour starts in Hamnsundet. We will go through the archipelago map together, which shows you places worth visiting. We go through the equipment that we provide, which you then pack into the kayak together with your own equipment. After a safety briefing, you can paddle out towards the Norra Åland archipelago for 3 days of magnificent nature experience.

After the first day’s stage, you are now out in the outer sea band in the North Sea’s most open and barren archipelago. There you unpack the tent from the kayak and set it up on a polished red granite rock and enjoy the summer evening and the unbroken horizon of the Bothnian Sea.

Day 2.

In the morning you wake up to life in the outer archipelago. If you are an early riser, you can enjoy the sunrise with your morning breakfast and freshly brewed coffee.

The day’s kayak tour goes through Stormskär’s Maja’s islands and cuts towards Boxö Nature Reserve.

At the end of the day, you arrive at Boxö and where the sauna awaits, but also dinner and a comfortable bed in the cabin Glasbergstugan or if you prefer in one of our Glamping tents.

Day 3.

When the morning sun has risen and you’ve enjoyed the morning breakfast, which we deliver to the island with today’s lunch box, it’s just a matter of sliding out into the bay on the day’s kayak tour and finding new and fantastic places to explore in the archipelago. You can also choose to do an island hike in the Boxö Nature Reserve to the Boxö cave and Boxö fortification ruins from the First World War and enjoy the view from Rövarberget out over the Bothnian Sea.

At the end of the day, you arrive at Hamnsundet, and we take care of the kayak with equipment and, according to agreement, take you back to your accommodation or another place you decide.
